Sustainability & Fabrics
Sustainability at Slowly
We don’t claim to have it all figured out. What we do commit to is being transparent about how we work, why we make the decisions we do, and where we’re continuing to learn.
Buy less, but better
Choose pieces that last beyond one season
No trends or gender in mind
Feels good to wear, and good to keep
Small runs, small quantities
We choose to work in small runs and limited quantities. Producing this way allows us to avoid overproduction, reduce excess stock and waste, and stay flexible and intentional with what we make
It also means we don’t release new styles just for the sake of it. Each piece is considered and made with longevity in mind, not trends or fast turnaround cycles.
Slow growth is a conscious choice for us.
Made to last. Made to be passed down.
One of the most sustainable things we can do is make clothing that stays in use.
Slowly pieces are designed to be worn often, across seasons, and by more than one child. Oversized fits, durable construction, and timeless silhouettes all help extend the life of each garment.
When clothes last longer, fewer pieces are needed overall, and that matters.
Designed in New Zealand, made with our partners in China
All Slowly clothes are created in New Zealand, with designers in both Aotearoa and Australia contributing to our prints and illustrations.
To bring these designs to life, we work with manufacturing partners in China who support small production runs and help us achieve the level of quality, durability, and fabric options that aren’t currently available locally.
We know transparency matters. We’re actively working towards providing more detail around our manufacturing partners and their practices as we continue to build long-term relationships and better visibility across our supply chain.
Choosing kinder fabrics
Fabric choice plays a big role in how a garment wears, lasts, and impacts the planet.
Where possible, we choose materials that are: more durable, so garments last longer, kinder on skin and comfortable for everyday wear, and selected with environmental impact in mind.
Always learning
We’ll always be open about what we’re doing now, and where we’re heading next.
Thank you for caring about how things are made, and for being part of a community that values doing things a little more slowly. If you have any questions, please get in touch with Sharon.
